Bassline WinPopUp is a pure peer-to-peer INSTANT MESSENGER running in Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP/2003. Peer-to-peer means that it doesn't require dedicated server or address book setup. Right after installation, you can exchange versatile messages with your coworkers in your office. As its title says, it is fully compatible with Microsoft WinPopup or net send. It uses not only Computer/User/Workgroup name but also IP address and Email addres.

 

Recipients can be added from presence-aware contact list easily.

Programmable message is supported with Reminder and Shortcut keys.

Also message can be generated from command line.


 

    Upon receipt of new message, it pops up and plays Alert sound. According to the settings, Received message can be
  • Ignored
  • Redirected or
  • Auto-replied

    If hyperlink e.g. web URL or email is embedded in the received message, it is underlined to be clickable.

    You can make hard copy of received message using printer button.

    Messages sent/received are saved automatically. They can be browsed whenever you want.

    Important messages are saved into a file on the desktop by one-click

    All the messages can be logged into the files.

  • Group Chat with HTML support
    Version 4.90 or higher supports general chat interface similar to common instant messengers. You can invite people through computer/user/workgroup name and IP address. Common chat applications supports only URL link to open web pages. But Bassline WinPopUp Chat comes with HTML support. You can write HTML text with bold, italic, various font and size. Also you can copy or drag HTML pages from web browser. Into your chat message, you can embed pictures and articles published on the newspaper web page you're reading. Learn more...


  • If you're a user of old version 3.43 or lower...
    • Version 3.95 or higher is not compatible with old versions 3.50 or lower. They should be replaced by new one before the use.
    • Since user data files are copied from old version, you can go back to old version if it is unsatisfactory.
    • New version uses prefixed NetBIOS name. e.g. =COMPUTERNAME, +USERNAME, *WORKGROUPNAME, |MSWINPOPUP. You might have incorrect prefix of these names if you use information created in old version. e.g. Replying to old messages, Using old smart messages.
    • Command line messaging : In the old version, you can send message without running Bassline WinPopUp. But in the new version, before the command line message is sent, Bassline WinPopUp must run already. There are minor changes in its syntax.
    • Ignore message: Relevant options should be specified.
    • Relay(Redirect) message: Relevant options should be specified.

  • Permanently removed features
    File transfer using mailslot has been removed because it is too slow and TCP/IP is used in most sites.
    In some sites, computer name is given by network equipment, or management policy. And it made difficult to memorize the computer name and actual user. Alias has been supported to help this situation. Now since you can communicate with user name, alias is unnecessary.


  • Known bugs
    After wake-up from the power save mode in laptop, message is not delivered well. Program should be restarted manually.
